DIY Tips To Clean Conservatories

In order to keep your conservatory in tip top condition, you will need to clean it. Regular cleaning will reduce the need for maintenance as dirt and grime can cause discolouring and corrosion, making your conservatory a shodow of it’s former self.

Most conservatories are quite large and cleaning can be quite time consuming. Our advice would be to break the cleaning process down into smaller more manageable tasks, an example would be Job 1) clean glass, Job 2) clear guttering of debris , Job 3) clean framework etc. To break the jobs down further you can break them into inside and outside tasks.

Without a shadow of a doubt cleaning the outside of a conservatory is the most time consuming. The following cleaning procedures should be considered:

1. Removing plant material (leaves, twigs etc.) from gutters, this type of material can severely limit surface drainage, providing a moisture rich environment for moss and algae, and in severe cases if left unattended this can lead to panel and roofs moving.

2. Cleaning the roof. The roof of your conservatory takes a beating from the elements, rain, wind snow and ice can all carry small particles of dirt, which over time, build up reducing the light into you conservatory. This is also the perfect breeding ground for algae, this will give your conservatory an unattractive green coat, again reducing your light and over time affecting the structure.

3. Cleaning the glass. The window of your conservatory will become dirty just like the windows on the rest of your home and should be cleaned accordingly.

4. Cleaning the framework. Overtime the framework of your conservatory will pick up dirt and grim, and should be cleaned at regular intervals this will help to keep that gleaming “new” look.

INSIDE THE CONSERVATORY
5. The internal framework and glass in some environments is subject to much harsher conditions than the external. Many of the pollutants are much more concentrated when compared to those outside. If you live in a house where someone smokes your conservatory can be exposed to enormous amounts of smoke and nicotine. This when left over an extended period of
time can leave a unsightly yellow stain.

When cleaning your safety should be at the forefront of your mind. There is good chance you could be working at height. Make sure you use the correct equipment for the task in hand and do not attempt anything you are unsure of.

If you don’t have the correct equipment for the job, please don’t even attempt any of the tasks mentioned. There are many conservatory cleaning companies out there, who can provide a thorough and professional service.

DIY Tips To Clean PVC, UPVC, PVCU Doors and Windows

Here, i have limited time so i am make post on uPVC, PVC, PVCu doors cleaning content and for PVCu, PVC, PVCu window cleaning tips covered in video please check it.

uPVC door and window can create a stunning entrance to your home. They are also great at reducing drafts and keeping the heat in your home. There are hundreds of designs to choose from so you can select one which will complement the overall look of your house. Although white is still a very popular choice, you can now choose doors with a wood effect finish if you prefer the traditional look for your external doors.

UPVC doors are naturally low maintenance and don’t need to be treated or protected from the elements as wooden doors do and you can also avoid the expense of regular painting. UPVC doors are not immune from needing cleaning and general maintenance though. The very nature of doors means that they are constantly being battered by the elements which can cause them to gather dirt look unclean. Wet weather can cause constant damp patches on your doors which can be a breeding ground for algae which will create an ugly green layer. Other problems can come from traffic emissions leaving residue which can give them an off-white look.

A little bit of maintenance from time to time will help to keep them in full working order and make sure they stay looking great.

Below are some quick tips to help keep your UPVC doors in superb condition…

  • The parts of UPVC doors which are exposed to the elements should be washed down with warm soapy water to avoid dirt building up and penetrating seals and any small cracks. Use a soft cloth to avoid scratching the doors and be sure to thoroughly rinse and dry the door once it’s clean.
  • Stay away from using coarse cleaning products as their abrasive nature could do more harm than good and leave scratches on your doors.
  • Check the parts of your doors that are only on display when the door is open such as the hinges and the inside of the frame. Clear debris out with a damp cloth to remove grime which could stop the door from closing properly or hinder the effectiveness of the seal.
  • To keep the locks of your doors in working order try applying a small amount of petroleum jelly to the locks to keep them lubricated.
  • Avoid using oil to lubricate hinges and instead try a silicone based lubricant.
  • Using cream cleanser in warm water to clean your UPVC doors is a better choice than washing up liquid which can degrade the seals. You can also purchase professional cleaning products for your diy doors from leading DIY stores.
Before you try out any new cleaning product make sure you check with a specialist to see if it’s safe to use so you can be sure you’re not going to damage your doors.

15. Clean the Deck
Clean the deck to remove grime, pollen, fungus, and mildew. Scrub the surface with a deck cleanser or this homemade cleaning formula: Add 1 cup of powdered laundry detergent to a gallon of hot water, and add 1/2 cup of chlorine bleach to kill moss or mildew.

16. Check Plants
Check shrubs and trees for winter damage and prune accordingly. Remove deadwood or broken branches. Replant any shrubs that have heaved out of the soil during a freeze-thaw cycle, before the roots dry out.

17. Put Up Window Boxes
Dump out old soil and clean the boxes thoroughly. Line wooden boxes with garbage bags to protect them from moisture. Make sure there are drainage holes. Replant with potting soil.

18. Prep Your Pool
If you have a swimming pool, ensure that cleaning equipment is in good shape and your water-testing kit is complete. Stock up on chemicals. If you lowered the water level in the fall, fill the pool now.

19. Unpack Your Hoses
Bring your garden hoses out of storage. Check for cracks and leaks and examine the rubber or plastic washers at the connectors as well.

20. Fertilize Your Lawn
A high-nitrogen fertilizer should be applied twice a year, once in spring and again later in fall. If a weed killer is needed, try an organic brand.

8.Grow Herbs Inside
Start kitchen herbs inside and transplant later in May. Basil, chives, dill, parsley, and fennel can be started from seeds. Oregano, rosemary, sage, savory, and tarragon do better if you start them from small plants or cuttings.

9.Clean and Ventilate the Basement
Open windows and give your cellar a good airing, then sweep the area thoroughly or vacuum.

10.Start Up Your Dehumidifier
Clean it, make sure that it’s in working order, then run it in a humid basement or partially underground room. Dampness during spring and summer months causes mildew.

11.Clean Carpets
Clean carpets as soon as the spring mud season is over. Vacuum them thoroughly, then shampoo with a spray foam or powder, or rent a steamer from a hardware store for an even deeper clean.

12.Wash Your Windows
Clean the residue left behind by winter storms by tackling the job while the weather is still cool to prevent streaking. Start indoors before installing your screens, then finish the job outside on a dry day.

13.Air Out Rugs
Air out throw rugs on a clothesline to freshen.

14.Prep Your A/C
Install window-unit air conditioners. Carefully go over the unit with the brush attachment of your vacuum. Remove and wash the filter and let it dry completely, then reinstall it.

21 tips to get your house in shape for spring

1. Set Your Clocks Ahead One Hour
When daylight saving time rolls around, set your clocks to "spring forward" one hour. Remember to adjust any timers on household gadgets, indoor and outdoor lights, and those regulating the thermostats on your heating system.

2. Check Your Detectors
Change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. In addition to testing batteries regularly, you should change these twice a year without fail.

3. Get Rid of Dust
When dusting, move around the room in a circle, starting with the highest points and working your way down to the floor, says cleaning expert Laura Dellutri of healthyhousekeeper.com, who suggests using Swiffer dusters, air purifiers, and vacuums with sealed HEPA filters to get the most thorough clean.

4. Check Your Mattress
Flip or rotate your mattress. Check the warranty card for the manufacturer’s instructions and recommendations.

5. Wash Pillows
Wash pillows and curtains to help reduce allergens and dust mites.

6. Clean the Kitchen
Organize and thoroughly clean out kitchen cupboards and the fridge, discarding canned goods and other items that are past their expiration date.

7. Put Away Linens
Now is the time to swap heavy quilts and blankets for lighter-weight bedding. Be sure to wash and thoroughly dry all bedding before storing, suggests Donna Smallin, author of Organizing Plain & Simple (Storey), because body oils are what attract moths and insects. Stow them in under-bed boxes, zippered bags, or vacuum-seal storage bags, which save space and protect against insects. Insert cedar or lavender sachets for extra freshness.

What I like about cleaning my home, is the absence of scent. I do not have any allergies to scents, per se, but I certainly dislike the smell of fake lemons or pine trees. I get a headache when I smell a fake flower, especially in a bathroom. A fresh smell can be as subtle as a burst of fresh air in a room. There is not need to coat the air with artificial smells, in order to be clean.

If you are trying to go green, here are 5 eco friendly cleaners; you probably have in your home right now.

  1. Baking Soda - I know, you have heard it again and again, but it bears repeating. Baking soda is the powerhouse of cleaning supplies. Use it on a damp sponge, to scrub just about anything. It wont mar any surface, and removes odors. Try it mixed with dried rosemary for extra scrubbing power. If you are looking for a room freshener, look no further, mix 1 cup of baking soda with up to 12 drops of Lavender essential oil. Sprinkle liberally on your carpet, wait an hour and then vacuum.
  2. Vinegar - Yes, boring but true. Vinegar is an acid, killing most household bacteria and leaving no scent when dried. Perfect for the areas that you eat off of, no need to rinse this excellent household cleaner off before making that sandwich. Vinegar also cuts grease like a champ.
  3. Lemon juice - You don’t like the smell of vinegar, you say? Try using lemon juice for anything where vinegar is recommended. Love the scent, but it won’t last after it is dried. Just a clean surface.
  4. Soap - Wait, I said soap, not detergent. Soap is gentle and effective.  You more than likely won’t be able to find it in your grocery store. Castile soap sometimes is available. Look for the word "soap" on the package. You can find plenty of pure, natural, homemade soaps online though. I  make mine with simple lard, for cleaning. It works excellent!
  5. Washing Soda - Washing soda is another super effective and natural cleaning product. Washing soda, is actually Sodium Carbonate. It is the best for washing clothes, especially cloth diapers. It can also be used to scrub surfaces and soften water. In the laundry aisle, take a look for it!

Try some of these natural cleaning products in your home. Once you have cleaned with some of these, try opening your windows and doors for a few minutes, let some fresh air in and stale air out. It is the perfect ending for a healthy cleaning day.
